Connection Speeds Your connection speed can be determined by viewing the details of your dial-up connection. In Win95/98/ME/2000/XP you should double click on the connection icon at the bottom on your screen. The connection icon looks like two computers with a small cable running between them. It should be just to the left of the clock on your Task Bar. Macintosh users can view the connect speed via their PPP dial up software. The larger the number the faster the connection. For the best surfing experience we recommend speeds of 24,000 or better. Speeds below 24,000 may be due to a speed limitation of your modem, old modem software, or phone line issues. If you aren't sure about the capabilities of your modem have your computer checked by a computer professional.
Another reason you could be getting a slow connection would be because of phone line problems. The following connection speeds are false readings:
1200 If your computer says that you are connecting to us at these speeds, it is an error. These speeds are the speed at which your modem is communicating with the your CPU. If you are getting these readings, your modem drivers are probably not installed correctly. For help with re-installing your modem drivers, contact your computer manufacturer. |
