Regular disconnects are: Internet disconnects at the same amount of minutes every time you are disconnected. |

Random Disconnects If you are getting Random disconnects (disconnects you at different times: 10 minutes, 5 minutes, 30 minutes) you need to check the following: Is someone else in the home picking up a phone connected to the same phone number you are dialing from? Do you have call waiting? If so, is it disabled? If not you should edit your dial-up connection to include *70 before the number it is dialing (i.e. *70,521-6300). If you do not know how to edit your dial-up connection, contact our technical support (see below, left for contact info). Do you have static on your line? Refer to phone line issues if you do. Is your phone line coming from the modem connected through a fax machine or any other device? If so you need to disconnect it. Also remove splitters, surge protectors, double adapters, and overload devices. Try another phone cord and see if you get disconnected with it. You can also test another phone jack. The wiring could be bad in either. Also electric fences will generate noise on your phone line that in turn will cause disconnections. If you have electric fences within 2-3 miles of your residence, refer to phone line issues. Regular Disconnects First check to make sure your computer is not setup to automatically disconnect after so many minutes of inactivity. Our system is designed to disconnect you after 15 minutes of inactivity in order to conserve lines. Static on your phone line will cause your modem to disconnect. Go to My Computer | Control Panel | Internet Options | Connections Tab | Settings button | Advanced button | Remove the checks from "Disconnect if Idle for...." & "Disconnect when connection may no longer be needed" Reboot and try your connection again. If you get disconnected again; continue to next step! Obtain an init string for your particular modem Modems can be programmed with 'modem initialization strings', which change the characteristics of the modems. Each modem has a slightly different set of things that can be changed (parameters), and sometimes just adding an initialization string can make things work much better. A useful site for different init strings is: http://www.56k.com/inits/a2z.shtml Init strings are sent to the modem by your computer when starting to dial. Go to My Computer| Dial up Networking| Right-Click on your Kentec dialup icon| Select Properties. Click on the 'Configure...' button Click on the 'Connection' tab Click the 'Advanced...' button Type (or paste) the modem init string into the 'Extra settings field' |
